Kim’s Story: Abandoned, Resilient, and Still Standing
Some characters stay with you long after you’ve written them. For me, Kim is one of those.
She was just fourteen when everything changed. After losing her parents in a tragic accident, her grandparents—her last known family—walked away. Kim entered foster care with nothing but grief in her heart and questions no teenager should ever have to face.
But she didn’t give up.
Kim’s story is about resilience. About what it means to keep showing up in the world, even when it’s been unkind. She carried loss, abandonment, and loneliness—but also a quiet strength that grew over time. Despite it all, Kim thrived in school. She held onto a vision for her life and pushed through the barriers in her way.
This short story is a glimpse into a life shaped by hardship but not defined by it. And though it’s fiction, it’s grounded in something real: the hope that even broken beginnings can lead to beautiful futures.
